New Releases: 'Breaking Dawn Part 1,' 'Happy Feet Two' and 'The Descendants'

If only there was a big movie coming out this weekend. Lolz. 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' arrives in theaters with freight-train like speed, poised to gobble up all possible dollars in the days before Thanksgiving. If vampire sex isn't your speed, there's also 'Happy Feet Two' and 'The Descendants.' To the Weekend Movie Preview! NATIONWIDE RELEASES 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' What's the story: Edward. Bella. The wedding of the century. The crazy honeymoon sex. The crazier mutant vampire baby. If you don't know about 'Breaking Dawn Part 1' or 'Twilight,' catch up on Wikipedia. Box-office projection: To paraphrase the immortal marketing campaign for 'Clash of the Titans': Records! Could! Fall! Summit Entertainment is very conservatively estimating that 'Breaking Dawn Part 1' could earn upward of $125 million over the three-day weekend, but come on; this is 'Twilight,' y'all! 'Eclipse,' the last entry in the series, grossed $157 million over the five-day July 4th holiday in 2010, while 'New Moon' earned $142 million on this weekend in 2009. Anticipation feels higher than ever for 'Breaking Dawn' (like that could even be possible) -- which seems, in large part, due to the fact that there have been a severe lack of female-driven movies in theaters in recent weeks. Could 'Breaking Dawn Part 1' top 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' -- which earned $169 million during its debut weekend -- for biggest opening ever? 'Breaking Dawn' is not in 3D, which hurts, but: possibly. Sky's the limit on this one. $163.3 million [Showtimes & Tickets | Mr. Moviefone's Six-Second Review] 'Happy Feet Two' What's the story: A sequel to the Oscar-winning 2006 smash 'Happy Feet,' 'Happy Feet Two' finds Mumbles (Elijah Wood) and his son trying to save their tribe. With dancing. Box-office projection: .The first 'Happy Feet' opened on this weekend in 2006 and tapped its way to $41 million in ticket sales. Of course, there was minimal competition then: 'Casino Royale' was the other big release (James Bond ain't Edward Cullen) and the only other family film in circulation was 'Santa Clause 3.' 'Happy Feet Two' reaches theaters on the same day as 'Breaking Dawn' and is forced to share multiplex space with leggy hit 'Puss in Boots.' Being in 3D and IMAX should help, but don't be surprised if 'Happy Feet Two' earned slightly less than the original. Slightly. $39.1 million [Showtimes & Tickets | Mr. Moviefone's Six-Second Review] LIMITED RELEASES Released on Wednesday and expanding to more limited theaters on Friday, George Clooney leads 'The Descendants,' the latest film from acclaimed director Alexander Payne. In the dramedy, Clooney -- already festooned with Oscar buzz -- plays Matt King, a Hawaii resident who finds out his comatose wife was cheating on him. Payne, who hasn't made a film since 'Sideways' in 2005, tows the line between comedy and drama, and 'The Descendants' is sure to be on the short list of Best Picture favorites come January. After half a century, Johnson remains the Guy

JonesWhen James Earl Johnson got this news he would recieve an honorary Oscar, he and the wife found themselves "jumping up and lower, and laughing," he states. "We are still laughing!"It is a contrast towards the onscreen image for that thesp who occupies the middle of gravitas whenever he seems. Monarch or miner, admiral or garbageman, his authority and authenticity will never be available to question. In early seventies, he performed the very first black leader in "The Guy." To numerous audiences for half a century, James Earl Johnson continues to be the Guy. His resume boasts more majesties and energy brokers than anybody this side of Olivier. Yet he avers, "I love what Shakespeare known as 'the elemental men' -- the males who've no sophistication to cover anything they are really. And when I play an admiral, I attempt to boil him lower to his essence too, so he's also an elemental guy, as well as I'm able to.InchHis physical energy is even more imposing due to his desire not to wield it. "He's a formidable guy," states "Area of Dreams" co-star Kevin Costner, "but like every formidable guy they know to not use that as his right hands."Not to mention, there is the mellow, moving bass that drove millions to Verizon, welcomed billions to CNN and trained Simba how to be a lion king. It is the voice that motivated George Lucas -- who needed anyone to dub supervillain Darth Vader -- to pass through over the kind of Orson Welles in support of "this person who had been born in Mississippi, was elevated in Michigan and who stuttered," as Johnson genially describes themself. His onscreen gravitas comes partially from his intense concentration. Chris Cooper takes note of being "so flattered when James provided his full attention" inside a lengthy, tense sequence in the first film, 1987's "Matewan.""I am watching him entirely character, tears streaming lower his face when i shipped this speech. Then John (Sayles) requested as we took it again, and James stated something similar to 'Naw, there is nothing more to complete, that's the best way to get it done.A Only a great subtle pat around the to me, precisely what I desired to listen to: I am on course with this particular champion."Initial phase acclaim peaked with signature Tony Award-winning roles in "The Truly Amazing Whitened Hope" and "Fences." Cinema adaptation from the former brought to some lead actor Oscar nom, just the second time a black actor have been so honored. But your reached eat. Johnson chomps lower lustily around the wicked Thulsa Disaster in "Conan the Barbarian" and shaman Kokumo in "Exorcist II." "The saying 'journeyman actor' fits me, and I am quite happy with it."Right from the start, he states, "I discovered I could not get enough acting operate in a medium so that I possibly could ever possess a family or perhaps be a breadwinner. And So I made the decision on which I call centipede acting. I wouldn't act on a single leg, like just as being a film actor, however i would you must do everything: film, radio, TV, advertisements."A particular voice-over job stored him going, in a major way. "I had been broke that summer time, and that i was offered employment to record some words that did not need to be lipsynched. My agent stated, 'Jimmy, you'll need a day's work?' and that i stated, 'Yeah, create it for me!' " Thus The almighty Vader walked as much as the mic."After I told him things i wanted, it did not have to be mechanical which I needed it to possess some emotion, although not be excessively emotional, he discovered that sweetspot," Lucas takes note of. "He gave it depth and rounded the smoothness out simply using the energy of his voice and the acting capabilities."Johnson comes with an affinity for that everyday guy, possibly while he thinks about themself being an everyday guy themself. "The thought of acting just like a star is really a terrible total waste of time along with a terrible waste of feeling," he keeps.States Cooper, "James Earl demonstrated me that humbleness works, as being a team player works," and Costner concurs: "He's a soft qualities and humbleness that's nearly impossible to face up to.Inch Tom Guiry takes note of that on "The Sandlot," "He am wonderful to most of us. Never entered his trailer but hung by helping cover their us kids and also the grips, rose up into our treehouse. He's an attractive guy along with a great actor."Yet Johnson confesses, "Even inside my age, I've not done the film yet will be able to say, 'This is my legacy on film.' I am still searching for it."Have without doubt, though: He'll happily accept his Oscar. "What's wonderful about this is I did not need to fight for this, I did not need to campaign for this. They do not have to say 'James Earl Johnson, champion!' I did not win it, I gained it."A minimum of, I really hope Used to do.InchWayne Earl Johnson reminiscesHonorary Oscar recipient on his legendary roles"Dr. Strangelove" (1964):Jones' film debut, for helmer Stanley Kubrick.
